Năm 2020, nhà văn gạo cội Tạ Duy Anh tái xuất dưới bút danh Cổ Viên bằng tiểu thuyết ấn tượng mang tên Đất mồ côi - một lần nữa tiếp tục khẳng định vị trí khó thay thế của một trong những tác giả đã đi sâu nhất vào “vùng tối của linh hồn con người”. Đất mồ côi kế thừa mối quan tâm lâu dài của Tạ Duy Anh về bản chất người, về sự tha hóa và nhất là về muôn vẻ tội ác. Ở Đất mồ côi, cái ác không chỉ được trình hiện như hành động bạo lực của cá nhân mà còn là hệ quả của cơ chế xã hội, của ký ức lịch sử và sự im lặng đồng lõa tập thể. Tìm hiểu về cái ác trong tác phẩm này có thể thấy được cách văn học Việt Nam hôm nay kể lại những kinh nghiệm đau thương trong quá khứ, đồng thời mở rộng diễn ngôn đạo đức trong tự sự hiện đại.
In 2020, the veteran writer Ta Duy Anh made a compelling return under the pseudonym Co Vien with the striking novel Orphan Land (Đất mồ côi). This work reaffirms his prominent position as one of the authors who delves deepest into the "darkest recesses of the human soul." Orphan Land continues Ta Duy Anh's long-standing preoccupation with human nature, alienation, and specifically, the multifaceted manifestations of evil. In this novel, evil is portrayed not merely as individual acts of violence but as a consequence of social mechanisms, historical memory, and collective complicity of silence. An inquiry into the portrayal of evil within this work reveals how contemporary Vietnamese literature recounts past traumatic experiences while expanding moral discourse in modern narrative.
